Retrieving ActiveSync Logs: Using Outlook Web App

Good morning my friends (long time no see, after a couple of days in holidays I’m back!)

In Today’s post we are going to check it out the ActiveSync Logging process in Exchange Server 2010, in this initial post from the end-user perspective and Tomorrow how to do it on the server side.

This procedure can be used to troubleshoot ActiveSync and it may be useful when dealing with other vendors such as BlackBerry, Android and Apple devices trying to connect or having issues when connected to ActiveSync.

Any user that has an ActiveSync enabled device should be able to see the list of the devices on its Outlook Web App (on the main page, click on Options, then See All Options, and finally click on Phone).

For each selected device from the list, the end-user can retrieve Details about it, wipe the device and delete the partnership as well. In our post we are going to look into Start Logging which will enable logging and it will allow the end-user to retrieve such information afterwards.

First of all, let’s hit that button and in the following dialog box let’s click on Ok.

Now, time to go the device that we want to check the logs and perform a Synchronization and then the user has to go back to the same page on Outlook Web App and then click on Retrieve Log

The result of this procedure will be a new message at the user Inbox containing the log information.
